Commensurate with education and experience.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm; Summer Hours: Monday – Thursday 7:30 am - 6:00 pm and Closed Friday; Occasional evening and weekend hours are required during peak times

Remote Eligible: This position is not eligible for remote work

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Student Success and Advising, the Senior Career Advisor is responsible for implementing career advising strategies for specific cohort groups with targeted interventions. This position assists students in staying on the path and ensuring learning with a focus on retention and academic recovery.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Performance Requirements*
Provides individual success plans for students on academic and financial suspension and dismissal with a focus on retention and success
Coordinates probation case management with advisors; monitors outcomes
Provides degree/career plans for core, major, and transfer students; implements academic advising strategies and achievement of student learning outcomes
Connects students to campus support services, counseling, and community resources
Acts as a liaison for academic support services such as tutoring, library services, and learning support
Acts as a liaison among various student affairs areas such as Counseling, Student Accessibility Resources (SAR), Career Services, Transfer and Financial Aid
Identifies specific cohort groups with targeted interventions to address gaps in services based on best practices in retention and creates programs to improve student success
Serves as lead Advisor by assisting in new Advisor onboarding and training, scheduling and assigning new advising sessions
Provides workshops such as social skills, time management, study skills, and test-taking strategies
Communicates internally and externally with students and partners by e-mail, phone, texting, chat, face-to-face, direct mail, and web
Supports graduation initiatives through communication, activities, and building awareness
Serves as liaison between students, staff, faculty, and administrators, provides referral services for students, assesses and coordinates services, and streamlines processes in a changing environment
Leads special projects and participates on internal committees in support of student success as assigned

General Supervision and Management
Acts as a lead within the Advising Team
Assumes delegated authority when the Director or Assistant Director of Counseling is absent

Service Excellence
Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Director of Student Success and Advising

*Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree and three (3) years' working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
Current Certificate in Advanced Education Leadership (CAEL) or any National Career Development Association (NCDA) Certification including Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP), Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS), Certified Career Counselor (CCC), Certified Clinical Supervisor of Career Counseling (CCSCC), or Certified School Career Development Advisor (CSCDA)

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree
Degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or related area
At least one (1) year's working experience in student retention initiatives, early alert interventions, working with high-risk students, and providing services to students
Bilingual verbal and written

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of student characteristics and campus/college programs
Skilled in excellent customer service, interpersonal relationships, and team building across all areas of the college, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
Ability to prepare/present programs to various audiences
Ability to use Online Student Records Management Systems such as Who's Next and Student Planning
Ability to work independently, follow established procedures and regulations, and use discretion and judgment
Ability to multi-task and work under conditions of high stress and high volume during peak periods.
Ability to work in a case management process environment
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
Ability to work evening and weekend hours to support student registration and progression efforts as needed

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
