Job Summary:

Reporting to the assigned department leader, this role is responsible for tending to ventilation and heating equipment such as fans, vacuum pumps, air compressors, vents and ducts, and lubrication oil used in buildings by performing the following duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Performance Requirements*
⦁ Operates, monitors, and adjusts mechanical, HVAC, and building systems to maintain safe and efficient facility operations
⦁ Performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment and systems, including pumps, valves, gauges, and bearings
⦁ Monitors system controls and gauges; documents readings, maintenance activities, and equipment status using established reporting processes
⦁ Troubleshoots mechanical system issues, identifies abnormal conditions, and escalates significant malfunctions as appropriate
⦁ Applies and manages boiler, water treatment, and HVAC chemicals in accordance with safety and regulatory standards
⦁ Maintains cleanliness and functionality of mechanical spaces, fans, vents, and ductwork to ensure proper system performance
⦁ Adheres to safety policies and participates in on-call rotations and variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs require

Service Excellence
⦁ Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
⦁ Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
⦁ Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute
⦁ Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the assigned department leader

Required Minimum Qualifications:

⦁ High School diploma or GED and three (3) years' working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements, or any equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
⦁ Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

⦁ At least two (2) year's working experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers, air conditioning units or related equipment
⦁ Certificate or degree in environmental science, engineering, wastewater treatment technology, or related field from a vocational school or community college.
⦁ Current HVAC certification
⦁ Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
⦁ Current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

⦁ Knowledge of steam and hot water heating equipment and commercial air conditioning equipment
⦁ Knowledge of the mechanical and electrical components within the plant
⦁ Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships
⦁ Skilled using computerized monitoring systems, software, applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
⦁ Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
⦁ Ability to identify routine issues and escalate non-standard problems using established procedures in a fast-paced work environment
⦁ Ability to review basic information and follow policies, procedures, and guidelines when completing assigned tasks
⦁ Ability to coordinate assigned work and communicate effectively with faculty and staff to support departmental and campus operations

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud and require use of personal protective equipment.
