Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of User Services, the LMS Integration and Platform Administrator/Sr. Administrator is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and optimizing the Learning Management System (LMS) (e.g., Canvas) to ensure consistent uptime, seamless course provisioning, and robust SIS integration. In addition, the administrator is also responsible for the secure, scalable, and policy-compliant integration of third-party instructional tools into the College’s Learning Management System (LMS) (e.g., Canvas) using the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standard. This role ensures that the platform and all LMS-integrated tools meet institutional, legal, and technical requirements, including FERPA, accessibility, and cybersecurity standards. The Administrator serves as the Service Owner for the platform and LMS-integrated tools, overseeing their lifecycle, operational integrity, and alignment with instructional and IT governance priorities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Performance Requirements*
Administers LMS platform settings, user roles, authentication, and term configurations.
Provides Tier III technical support and resolves complex LMS-related issues.
Configures and maintains LMS (e.g., Canvas) settings, including authentication, term setup, and user roles.
Leads SIS and third-party tool integrations using LTI and other supported standards.
Ensures compliance with FERPA, accessibility, cybersecurity, and institutional policies.
Manages system-level access controls and coordinates with Information Security and Procurement.
Participates in LMS governance - collaborates with faculty, instructional designers, and IT teams to identify, evaluate and implement instructional technologies.
Develops and maintains documentation, workflows, training, and support materials for LMS and integrated tools.
Monitors system performance and coordinates with vendors to resolve platform and integration issues.
Demonstrates proficiency in APIs, data formats, and security protocols (e.g., RESTful, SOAP, JSON, XML, YAML, OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML).
Oversees system-level access control and ensures compliance with institutional security policies.

Additional Duties for Senior Administrator
Oversees platform operations and release readiness across academic terms.
Leads complex integrations and cross-functional initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
Advises on policy development and governance related to LMS capabilities and operations.

Works under the general supervision of the Manager of User Services

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Administrator: Associate’s degree or equivalent college/university coursework (60 hours) and three (3) years’ working experience related to the essential performance requirements or an equivalent combination of education and working experience
Sr. Administrator: Associate’s degree and Five (5) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree
At least one (1) year’s working experience with LMS (e.g., Canvas) and LTI integration in a higher education environment
At least one (1) year’s working experience using accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), FERPA, and cybersecurity protocols
At least one (1) year’s working experience with REST APIs, XML, JSON, and other integration technologies
At least one (1) year’s working experience using instructional design principles in digital learning ecosystems
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of technical LMS platforms (e.g. Canvas) and LTI standards
Knowledge of data privacy, accessibility and security standards in educational technology
Skilled in troubleshooting problems and documenting solutions and standard operating procedures
Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams and external vendors
Ability to travel between campuses on occasion
