Job Summary:
Reporting to the Police Captain, the Campus Security Guard is responsible for guarding and protecting campus personnel, students, property, and resources against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Performance Requirements*
Patrols campus buildings and grounds to check for unauthorized subjects, fires, water leaks, and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity to the Office of the Chief of Police
Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure
Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts
Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred
Monitors fire and intrusion alarm system
Checks parking permits on vehicles entering parking garages and issues temporary parking permits consistent with departmental procedures
Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons
Permits authorized persons to enter property, ensures all personnel entering the complex are properly identified, and maintains a log of all issued permits
Provides information to visitors as to location of building and offices
Registers time of inspection trips
Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff
Regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic at campus entrance to maintain orderly flow
Writes reports on incidents occurring at the complex
Occasionally drives College vehicle
Writes and issues citations for incidents on TCC campuses
Service Excellence
Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Police Captain
*Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Must be at least 18 years old
United States citizen
Ability to speak, read, and write the English language
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Texas Department of Public Safety Commissioned security officer card
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of building construction methods and materials
Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships
Skilled using computerized applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
Ability to assess situations and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations while exhibiting a strong attention to detail and organization
Ability to maintain a high level of diplomacy and tact, ensuring confidentiality and discretion
Ability to learn District geography, including all campuses, routes, buildings, and facilities as well as adjacent city roads and highways, buildings, landmarks, waterways, and boundaries
